José Veláquez of the Chesapeake Bay Oysters whitewashed the Jersey City Chillitowners 5-0 in a complete game win, limiting them to 6 hits while chalking up 6 strikeouts and giving up 1 walk.
"Talking to SION writers after the game, his manager said, "He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys. José is pretty poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff."
In 2008 thus far, Veláquez has tossed 107 innings in 26 starts, fanned 62 batters, walked 29 and put up a 5.47 ERA with 1 win and 7 losses.

The Appalachian Mountain League presented its most recent Player of the Week Award to Jersey City Chillitowners left fielder Simon Heideck.
"His numbers speak for themselves," a club publicist said. "He's been really seeing the ball well."
Indeed, Heideck has. Last week he went 13 for 27, batted .481 with 1 home run and 8 RBIs.
To date this season Heideck is hitting .285 with 3 home runs.
