Before the game Ángel López liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Kingpins pitcher whitewashed the Beantown Browns 10-0.
López said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The New Brunswick starter held Beantown scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Browns manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
This season in 8 starts Ángel López has a record of 3-1 with 52 strikeouts in 55.2 innings and a 2.10 ERA. |
 | Saturday, May 9th, 2009: Gonzáles Twirls Shutout
The Raleigh manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
He was talking about Santiago Gonzáles, who had just hurled a fine 5-hit shutout over the New Brunswick Kingpins. He had 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in the Raleigh 2-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the New Brunswick manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
This year Gonzáles has fanned 47 in 52 innings and collected a 5-1 record with a 1.38 ERA.

 | Wednesday, April 29th, 2009: Ortega's Hit Streak Reaches 20 Games
With 1 hit in today's game Osvaldo Ortega added another number to his consecutive-game hitting streak. The Fayetteville first baseman increased it to 20 games in a row. But the Braggarts fell to the New Brunswick Kingpins 4-2 at Ballpark of Fayetteville.
O. Ortega singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th and walked in the 8th.
This year Ortega is hitting .400 with no home runs.
