Cristo Román of the Joplin Red Racers blanked Providence 7-0 on 5 hits. He rang up 4 strikeouts, keeping batters off balance all day long.
This season Román is 1-and-1 with no saves and a 1.90 ERA. He has given up 15 hits in 23.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. |
 | Friday, August 15th, 2008: Sewell Struts Stuff in Providence Win
"It was just one of those games, when everything went right. I threw a lot of strikes," Richard Sewell said. "And the pitches they did get to hit, they didn't do anything with them."
The Allentown Falcons pitcher really got it done in his 1-0 shutout victory over the Providence Spooners, shutting them down on 4 hits. Sewell issued 1 walk and had 6 strikeouts.
To date in 2008, Sewell has registered 16 starts, 10-2 won-lost mark, 2.49 ERA, 104.2 IP, 71 strikeouts and 33 walks. Opposing teams have hit .217 against him.

 | Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008: Sánchez Slams 5 Hits for Raleigh
5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Raleigh's Edgardo Sánchez had a very special day against the Spooners when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats -- and led the Raleigh El Dorados to a 6-5 win at El Dorados Ballpark.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Sánchez said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
E. Sánchez singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off P. Thompson in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Currently Sánchez is batting .356 with 115 hits and 17 home runs. He has knocked in 72 runs and scored 54 times.
