| Breaking News |  | Sunday, October 12th, 2008: Top AML Pitcher for 2008 Named The Worcester ace, Augusto Torres, put up some sensational stats for the 2008 season and has been voted the Appalachian Mountain League Outstanding Pitcher Award winner.
The 25-year-old Saucers star made 28 starts and racked up a 13-9 record. He pitched 195.2 innings, collected 120 strikeouts and gave up 50 walks and 182 hits to hold the opposition to a .244 batting average.
This weekend Torres will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner. |  | Saturday, September 13th, 2008: Worcester Holds Jefferson County Scoreless Rafael Lara of the Worcester Saucers was on fire against Jefferson County. He shut them down 5-0 on 5 hits and no runs with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
"The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Lara said. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that."
This year Lara has gone 9-7 with an ERA of 2.99 and has 125 strikeouts in 147.2 innings. |  | Monday, September 8th, 2008: Super Week for Worcester's Hammond! This week Nick Hammond, center fielder for the Worcester Saucers, hit his way to the Appalachian Mountain League Player of the Week Award.
Hammond put on a hitting clinic with a .500 average as he belted and battered AML pitchers for 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 1 home run, 8 RBIs and scored 6 runs.
Hammond on the season is hitting .260 with 7 home runs.
