| Breaking News |  | Friday, May 15th, 2009: Román Dominates Spooners in Shutout
Cristo Román of the Joplin Red Racers blanked Providence 7-0 on 5 hits. He rang up 4 strikeouts, keeping batters off balance all day long.
This season Román is 1-and-1 with no saves and a 1.90 ERA. He has given up 15 hits in 23.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. |
 | Tuesday, May 12th, 2009: Joplin Loses Rentería for Year
The season is apparently over for Santo Rentería. The Joplin Red Racers medical staff informed the club that the starting pitcher will be out at least 7 months with back spasms. Rentería was hurt in the game against Jersey City while throwing a pitch. The doctors did not think he would recover prior to the end of the season.
This season Rentería has a 1-5 record with a 3.99 ERA. |
 | Thursday, May 7th, 2009: Hit Streak Now at 20 for Grant
Tim Grant's bat has been smoking lately as he went 2-for-5 in today's 5-2 triumph over Joplin at Ballpark of Jefferson County. The 27-year-old catcher for the Jefferson County Independence has now hit safely in 20 successive games.
T. Grant doubled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
So far in 2009 Grant is batting .323 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has 31 hits in 96 at-bats and a .417 OBP.
