| Breaking News |  | Monday, September 29th, 2008: Allentown Takes Title The season came to a crashing halt for the Sioux Falls Lakota when the Allentown Falcons beat them 4-3 today at Falcons Ballpark to sweep the Ambasador's Cup 1-0.
Fans in Allentown have already begun the celebration and officials are expecting huge numbers when the championship parade takes place in a few days.
"Unbelievable for us, for our fans," the elated Falcons skipper said. "This team has worked as hard as any team ever. They deserve it. What these guys have done -- they're going to enjoy it for a long time."
This was the 1st championship for the Falcons.
Asked after the game, what it's like to lose in the Ambasador's Cup, Sioux Falls's manager replied, "You want the results to be different." Then he added, "They simply outplayed us, they deserve it. They beat us. They're the champions."
Allentown finished the season with a record of 77-67 and ranked first in the Appalachian Mountain League Northeast. |  | Thursday, September 11th, 2008: 5-7 Game for Nichols It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for River Nichols -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Lakota Ballpark and paced the Lakota to a 20-16 win over the Lincoln Emancipation.
After his dynamite batting performance the Sioux Falls shortstop told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 7 tries and put his name in the record book.
R. Nichols flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, hit an RBI triple in the 9th, hit a three-run home run off B. Turner in the 11th and hit a two-run single in the 11th.
To date this year Nichols is batting .212 with 10 home runs. |  | Monday, August 18th, 2008: Howard Struts Stuff in Chandler Win Alan Howard of the Sioux Falls Lakota was masterful today, pitching a 4-hit 2-0 shutout against the Chandler Waxers and giving his bullpen a rest by going the the distance.
According to his manager, "He had command of every ball and every pitch . . . great location, too." Howard had 6 strikeouts and issued no walks in an impressive outing.
