| Breaking News | | Sunday, May 10th, 2009: Lakota Méndez Smacks 5 Hits "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Sioux Falls's Manny Méndez told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Méndez today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against Glendale. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Lakota knocked off the Skyelanders 15-3 at Lakota Ballpark.
M. Méndez flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off E. Hines in the 9th.
Méndez's current batting average stands at .274 and he has chalked up 2 home runs and 15 RBIs. | | Friday, May 1st, 2009: Glendale's Flores Asking for Trade? Allegedly, Jesús Flores has asked to be traded from Glendale. It is rumored that he is unhappy with fans and the team management and that maybe the pressure and demands of playing here are too great. | | Tuesday, April 28th, 2009: Major Injury Forces Barker out of Baseball Glendale starting pitcher Edward Barker sustained a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament throwing a pitch in yesterday's game against the Cheeseheads. It was only later, at the local hospital, that the severity of the injury became apparent. While the Skyelanders team doctor was confident Barker would make at least a partial recovery, he was less optimistic about his future in baseball. "Professional ballplayers need to be in peak physical condition. Unfortunately, Edward will be affected by this injury for the rest of his life."
To date this year, Barker shows a 2-1 record, 5 starts, 38 innings, 21 strikeouts and a 3.32 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 16-22, .421 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 6.0 GB | | Record at home | 8-12, .400 PCT | | Record on the road | 8-10, .444 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-3, .250 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 6-12, .333 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 4-3, .571 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 12-19, .387 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-13, .458 PCT | | Record in May | 5-9, .357 PCT |
