Wednesday, May 13th, 2009: Jiménez Takes Charge, Blanks Hartford
Youngstown pitcher Luis Jiménez blanked the Hartford Insurers 4-0, tossing a 4-hitter while issuing no walks and collecting 4 strikeouts.

After his sharp shutout performance, he said that he gives a lot of the credit to his batterymate. "Me and him are just locked in out there. He's so great at having a feel for hitters. I couldn't do what I'm doing without him."

In 7 starts this year Jiménez has recorded a 4-2 record and a 2.22 ERA.
Monday, May 4th, 2009: AA Player of the Week Chosen
24-year-old Steve Fergus sent shock waves through Great Northern League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American Alliance Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Fergus made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .387 average, 12 hits in 31 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBI.

Where the Youngstown Thunder second baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Fergus certainly made his mark last week.

In 2009, Fergus is hitting .257 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs in 26 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .319 with 8 walks and 11 runs scored.
Monday, April 13th, 2009: American Alliance Picks Top Player
It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the American Alliance, but last week Leo Coury of the Youngstown Thunder reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.

Coury rocked opposing pitching for a .480 average (12-25), 2 home runs and 11 RBIs to come away with the award.
