| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 25th, 2008: Torres Sensational with Cycle At Field of the Les Échassiers today Pedro Torres grabbed a piece of baseball history, when he hit for the cycle and added his name to the record book. But the Cherries took a little gloss off of his shine, when they grabbed a 5-3 victory over the Les Échassiers. For the day Torres went 4 for 4 with 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored.
"I felt comfortable at the plate in a way I haven't felt all season," Torres said after the game. "It was like they were throwing beach balls at me. The ball seemed that big to me. And it just floated in."
P. Torres singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off R. González in the 8th.
In 100 games this year Torres has posted a .278 average and put up these numbers: 5 home runs, 50 RBIs and 39 runs scored. |  | Monday, August 25th, 2008: Vargas Picked Best Player It was a sweet day for Emílio Vargas of the Montreal Les Échassiers, who found out he has been named the Canadian Alliance Player of the Week.
The Les Échassiers center fielder put up a solid .448 average and contributed 1 home run and 9 RBIs to claim the honors.
So far this year Vargas has 10 home runs and a .276 batting average. |  | Wednesday, July 16th, 2008: Vargas Raps Laval for 5 Hits Emílio Vargas was a tough out and went 5 for 7 against Laval in a fine hitting display. But the Islanders still managed to beat the Montreal Les Échassiers 14-12.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in." Vargas also added, "And some days you lose, no matter how well you play. 5 hits in a game ought to win it."
Don't know if it is any consolation to him, but he will get his name put in the record books.
E. Vargas flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off S. Kaiser in the 7th, doubled in the 9th and hit a two-run double in the 10th.
