| Breaking News | | Monday, September 8th, 2008: Tamayo Week's Top Player Canadian Alliance pitchers tried and tried all week long to stop Carlos Tamayo, but to no avail.
His eyes would light up when he came to the plate and he hit everything in sight, batting .452 for the week to win the CA Player of the Week Award. The Toronto designated hitter cracked 14 hits in 31 at-bats, 2 home runs, drove in 6 runs and scored 4 times.
In the 2008 campaign Tamayo has hit at a .275 clip with 60 RBIs, 9 home runs and 53 runs scored. | | Sunday, August 31st, 2008: Coelho 5-6 for Laval Who needs batting practice? Conceição Coelho of Laval apparently doesn't as he peppered Toronto with a 5-hit outburst in today's game. He got the hits, but lost the game. The Phantoms pulled out a 10-8 win.
He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 6 day... will my name be in the record books now?"
One of his teammates hollered out, "No, only if your team wins the game!"
C. Coelho singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off J. Failes in the 8th and grounded out in the 10th.
Thus far in 2008 Coelho has hit .571 with 1 home run, 4 RBIs and scored 6 runs. | | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008: Phantoms Blank Edmonton, Pérez Winner José Pérez was downright nasty in pitching a 4-0 shutout against Edmonton. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Mall Ratz were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 4-hit shutout the Phantoms hurler chalked up 5 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This season-to-date Pérez has 7 wins and 5 losses and a 3.27 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 69-73, .486 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 7.0 GB | | Record at home | 33-38, .465 PCT | | Record on the road | 36-35, .507 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-10, .474 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 26-24, .520 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 21-24, .467 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 48-49, .495 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 10-10, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 12-13, .480 PCT | | Record in July | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in August | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in September | 5-6, .455 PCT |
