| Breaking News |  | Monday, April 27th, 2009: Star of the Week Picked in CA 25-year-old Júlio Casillas sent shock waves through Great Northern League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Canadian Alliance Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Casillas made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .727 average, 8 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 home runs and 2 runs batted in.
Where the Sherwood Park Hoods third baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Casillas certainly made his mark last week.
Casillas on the season is hitting .366 with 3 home runs. His stats include 5 RBIs and 9 runs scored. |  | Monday, April 13th, 2009: Sherwood Park's Simmons to Miss Season The season is finished for Brian Simmons of the Sherwood Park Hoods. The club announced today that he will forego the rest of the year because of injury. The Hoods reliever suffered a ruptured disc while throwing a pitch in a recent game against the Red Deer Kings. Team doctors said it would take at least 8 months to heal.
Thus far in 2009, Simmons has compiled a 0-0 record, made 5 relief appearances with no saves, hurling 5.2 innings and striking out 6. He has held the opposition to a .150 batting average with a 1.59 ERA. |  | Saturday, April 11th, 2009: Stone Ups Hit Streak to 25 Consecutive Games Stampede first baseman Jeffrey Stone is really on a roll. In today's game at Ballpark of Calgary he came up with 1 hit in 3 at-bats and extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to 25 games. But the Sherwood Park Hoods came up winners on the scoreboard and topped Calgary 13-6. J. Stone flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th and flied out in the 7th.
