| Breaking News |  | Friday, April 24th, 2009: Year Over for Macedonians Fugunaga
The news is bad in Alexandria. The Macedonians have lost the services of starting pitcher Hirotada Fugunaga for the rest of the season due to a torn rotator cuff muscle. Fugunaga was injured in a recent game with the Portsmouth Dockhands while throwing a pitch and is expected to miss 7-8 months.

It was a very good year for Alexandria Macedonians left fielder José Gómez, 2008's Amber Waves League Outstanding Hitter Award.
Gómez had a impressive season, hitting .376 with a .425 on-base percentage. He totaled 179 hits in 476 at-bats, 25 doubles, 6 triples, 7 home runs, 80 RBIs and scored 83 times in his award-winning season.
This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.

 | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Díaz Hurls Alexandria to Shutout Victory
Luis Díaz was downright nasty in pitching a 5-0 shutout against Bismarck. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Battleships were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 3-hit shutout the Macedonians hurler chalked up 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
In 26 starts this season Díaz has rung up a 10-9 record and a 3.62 ERA.
