| Breaking News | | Wednesday, May 6th, 2009: Flores Strokes 5 Hits Who needs batting practice? Alberto Flores of Cary apparently doesn't as he battered Drumright with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 2-1 win.
He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 5 day... will my name be in the record books now?"
A. Flores doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, walked in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off R. Zavala in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off S. Hernández in the 13th.
So far this season Flores has hit .309 with 3 home runs, 12 RBIs and and scored 6 times. | | Wednesday, May 6th, 2009: Season Over for Barker in Cary Jake Barker has to call it a season. The Cary Grants center fielder sustained a season-ending injury against the Drumright Tornadoes and will not play again this year according to club doctors. Barker was injured while making a defensive play. His doctors diagnosed it as a ruptured disc and stated that he would not be able to play for 12 months.
In 2009 Barker is batting .258 with 16 hits, no home runs, 6 RBIs, no walks, .254 OBP and has scored 6 runs. He has played in 15 games. | | Thursday, April 23rd, 2009: Columbia's Joo Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Shi-ping Joo showed how it's done as he went 5 for 6 against the Cary Grants and helped the Columbia Helos beat them 16-6.
The manager for the Grants told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Joo keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
S. Joo doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, flied out in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off C. Cochran in the 9th.
