| Breaking News | | Tuesday, May 26th, 2009: Holmes Hit String Snapped at 24 Chris Holmes saw his 24-game hitting streak wither and die today during the Virus 4-1 victory over Chula Vista at Ballpark of El Cajon. The 22-year-old second baseman was held hitless in 3 at-bats by Chargers, but his El Cajon teammates produced enough offense to garner the win.
Talking to BNN reporters after the game, Holmes was upbeat, "Am I disappointed about the hit streak? Maybe, just a little bit. How could you be unhappy after you have hit in 24 straight games? I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did. And I am really happy that we won another ballgame today. Life is good."
Thus far in 2009 Holmes is batting .316 with 2 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored. | | Friday, May 22nd, 2009: Kilmers End Milton's Streak The Chula Vista Chargers won the game 7-6 over the Salton Sea Kilmers. At the same time the Kilmers mound corps did what no other team could do. They stopped the 24-game hitting streak of Chargers left fielder Eric Milton. But that was still not enough to win the game.
"Our pitchers may have focused a bit too much on stopping Milton," the Salton Sea manager commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Chargers have other hitters and they did their job today."
A look at his season totals shows Milton with 1 home run, .325 BA, .356 OBP, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored. | | Saturday, May 16th, 2009: Milton's Hit Streak Soars to 20 Games Win, lose or draw -- Eric Milton just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He has now stretched his hitting streak to 20 games. The Chula Vista Chargers left fielder picked up 1 hit in 5 at-bats today, but it wasn't enough to win the game. His club was defeated 8-3 by the San Luis Río Colorado Rapidos Blancos at Chargers Ballpark. E. Milton flied out in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
This season Milton is swinging the bat at a .317 pace. He has hit 1 home run and scored 12 times, while driving in 14.
