| Breaking News |  | Thursday, June 25th, 2009: Valdés's Season Could be Over
The season is ending on a bad note for Salvador Valdés, starting pitcher for the Mexicali Shmoes. It was announced today that he will miss the rest of the season because of injury. Valdés was hurt against the National City Bankers while throwing a pitch. He suffered a torn labrum and will be out for at least 10-11 months.
To date this season, Valdés has a record of 4 wins and 2 losses and a 2.10 ERA. He has appeared in 9 games and struck out 41 in 55.2 innings.

Allegedly, Manuel Cardenas has asked to be traded from Mexicali. It is rumored that he is unhappy with fans and the team management and that maybe the pressure and demands of playing here are too great.

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Baja Cali League, but last week Vicente Castillo of the Mexicali Shmoes reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.
Castillo rocked opposing pitching for a .438 average (14-32), 1 home run and 5 RBIs to come away with the award.
This season Castillo has hit at a .344 clip with 31 RBIs, 5 home runs and 36 runs scored. He has played in 57 games.
