"The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we may have to start inviting him out with us after the games."
Adrián Ortega put together a very solid month to take home the Baja Cali League's top pitching honor in June.
The 24-year-old reliever threw with confidence some veteran's lack. In 12 relief appearances he raked in 8 saves and 7 strikeouts in 13 innings as he put together his 3-0 record and 0.69 ERA.
Season-to-date in 25 relief appearances Ortega has rung up 15 saves. He has 11 strikeouts and 14 walks in 23.2 innings while registering a 1.14 ERA and a 4-1 won-lost record. Opposing teams have hit .195 against him. |
 | Thursday, June 18th, 2009: Taylor Tosses Shutout for Rosarito
Goose eggs were the order of the day for National City as Maxime Taylor shut out the Bankers 9-0 at Ballpark of Rosarito. The Rosarito pitcher struck out 10 and walked 4 while allowing 5 hits.
This year Taylor has compiled a 5-5 record with a 4.80 ERA.

Carlos Haya was in command in his outing against the Rosarito Monjas del Vuelo. He hurled the Mexicali Shmoes to a 5-0 shutout victory, yielded 4 hits and chalked up 3 strikeouts and no walks.
"A complete-game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."
This season to date Haya has a record of 5 wins and 2 losses with a 3.88 ERA, has appeared in 8 games and struck out 25 in 60.1 innings.
