| Breaking News |  | Sunday, April 5th, 2009: McConaugheys Chill Meléndez's Hot Streak David Meléndez of the East Carolina Sea Dawgs came up empty at the plate today and went hitless in 4 at-bats. That put a quick end to his 20-game hitting streak. To make matters even worse, East Carolina dropped the game to the Marshall McConaugheys 12-5.
In a post-game comment Meléndez told the press, "It was not a good day today. We lost the game and the streak is over."
Currently Meléndez has 5 home runs and a .320 batting average. |  | Saturday, April 4th, 2009: Consecutive-Game Hit Streak Continues for Meléndez And the hits just keep on coming -- especially off the red-hot bat of David Meléndez. The Sea Dawgs right fielder got 1 hit in 4 at-bats in today's 4-3 triumph over the Louisville High Fives at Sea Dawgs Ballpark. Meléndez has now hit safely in his last 20 games.
Asked by the press, how it feels to go through something like this, he replied, "the longer it goes on, the more the pressure intensifies. The press coverage can get relentless at times. I wish I could just go out and play the game without all this distraction, but I know that's not going to happen. I know I will just have to grin and bear it." D. Meléndez grounded out in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
