| Breaking News | | Tuesday, April 28th, 2009: Alvarado Sizzles with 20-Game Batting Streak Today Vicente Alvarado went 2-for-3 in the Southern Miss Conferderates 5-1 victory over the Michigan Red Dawns. This extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Alvarado declined to comment for the media immediately after the game. V. It was announced today that he will miss the rest of the season because of injury. Lozano was hurt against the St. John's Kaisers while colliding with a player at a base. He suffered a fractured elbow and will be out for at least 12 months.
Lozano is batting .324 this season in 43 games with no home runs, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has 59 hits in 182 at-bats. | | Monday, April 6th, 2009: Klondikes Blanked by Castillo "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Javier Castillo did as he led the Red Dawns to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Klondikes.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the UCONN manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Castillo yielded 3 hits and had 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in a standout performance.
Thus far this season Castillo has posted a 6-1 record, started 8 games, struck out 38 batters in 58.1 innings and compiled a 2.31 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 33-24, .579 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 1.0 GB | | Record at home | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record on the road | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-8, .529 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 25-16, .610 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in February | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in March | 17-9, .654 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 0-1, .000 PCT |
