| Breaking News |  | Friday, June 12th, 2009: EC Presents Outstanding Pitcher Award
He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Bill Lewis performed like a veteran on the hill for the Sarasota HS Sailors and walked away with the Eastern Conference Outstanding Pitcher Award in the process.
The 17-year-old Sailors star fashioned a 8-1 won-loss record in 2009 with a 1.92 ERA. In 79.2 innings of work and 12 starts, Lewis struck out 142 while giving up 56 hits and 19 walks. He held opposing batters to a .193 average.

 | Saturday, May 9th, 2009: Green 5-5 Against Sailors
It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Charles Green -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and really shined on the diamond at Ballpark of Bishop Moore HS, but the performance lost a little glitter when the Hornets were downed 8-6 by the Sarasota HS Sailors.
After his sparkling batting performance the Bishop Moore HS center fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His batting theory paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book today, too."
C. Green doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and tripled in the 9th.
This season Green has banged out 58 hits in 196 at-bats for a .296 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .364 pace and his totals also include 21 RBIs and 42 runs scored.

| Friday, May 1st, 2009: Lewis Selected EC's Best Pitcher
In April, Bill Lewis tore through the Eastern Conference like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 17 years old.
The young Sarasota HS starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 1.99 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 40.2 innings he collected 76 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .181 average.
In 8 starts this season Lewis has gathered 5 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 51.2 innings, allowed 37 hits, struck out 95 and has a 2.09 ERA.
