Sixto Meléndez was on fire today and sparked his club to a 22-6 victory over the Tigers. The Brophy Prep center fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 7 against Katy HS in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody... and some days they fall in."
S. Meléndez hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off E. Bryant in the 9th.
This year Meléndez has hit at a .271 clip with 19 RBIs, 1 home run and 17 runs scored.

 | Wednesday, May 6th, 2009: Brophy Prep Loses Medina, Will Miss Season
Brophy Prep right fielder Júlio Medina could miss the remainder of the season because of a torn tricep muscle. He exited yesterday's Chatsworth HS game after injuring himself while throwing the ball. The original diagnosis said Medina would be out 10-11 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.
"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."
Medina is hitting .306 in 2009 with 28 RBIs and 5 home runs.

 | Friday, May 1st, 2009: Young Wins WC Top Pitcher Award
Anderson Young was on top of the world in April, capping it off with the Western Conference Pitcher of the Month honors.
The Brophy Prep starter was superb in 6 starts with 4 wins and 1 loss, 33.2 innings pitched, 46 strikeouts and a fine 1.87 ERA.
Young has made 9 starts, tossed 45 innings, struck out 59 batters and walked 13. His record is 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .275 batting average.
