| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, July 1st, 2009: June's Best SSG Hitter is Shigochiyo Memoto
Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Shigochiyo Memoto can still get it done in League of the Rising Sun. In fact, the 37-year-old first baseman for Niihama-shi was named the Shining Star Group Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.
In June he batted .292 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
This season Memoto has 11 home runs and a .307 batting average. |
 | Tuesday, June 30th, 2009: Kamuta Hurls Masterpiece
In an outstanding mound performance, Yasutoki Kamuta of the Niihama-shi Ghosts scuttled the Hyakujuu Mighty Mecha 5-0 on a 4-hit shutout, ringing up 8 strikeouts and giving up 4 walks.
"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Hyakujuu manager said after the game.
"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."
To date this season Kamuta is 5-1 with 7 starts and an ERA of 2.81 with 49 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. |
 | Saturday, June 20th, 2009: Daikawa Shuts out Neo-Tokyo
Nobuhito Daikawa of the Niihama-shi Ghosts spun his magic on the Neo-Tokyo Akiras today. He blanked them 4-0 on 5 hits, registering 5 strikeouts and no walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Daikawa said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Niihama-shi skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."
Up to now Daikawa has recorded a record of 4-1. In 8 starts he has fanned 44 batters in 63.2 innings with a 1.98 ERA.
