Thursday, July 2nd, 2009: Velas Trade Smith to Adelantados for Hayagawa
The Ciudad Juárez Velas have parted ways with 27-year old minor league second baseman Ron Smith and $678,800 in cash in a trade with the Mérida Adelantados for 26-year old minor league shortstop Suezo Hayagawa. The Velas general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.

His career numbers show Smith is batting .321 with a total of 29 home runs.

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009: Naucalpan Stops Ortíz's Hit Streak
Ciudad Juárez second baseman Enrique Ortíz knew his hitting streak would end sooner or later. He just would have preferred later. Ortíz went 0-for-4 today in the Velas 5-3 victory over the Naucalpan Café Tacvbas, snapping his 20-game hit streak.

Posting a .335 batting average to date, Ortíz has 30 home runs and 100 RBIs.
Monday, June 8th, 2009: Ortíz Boosts Hit Streak to 20 Games
Enrique Ortíz of the Ciudad Juárez Velas just keeps going and going. The hot-hitting second baseman went 1-for-4 in his team's 8-0 victory over the Naucalpan Café Tacvbas at Velas Ballpark and extended his hitting streak to 20 games.

"He is definitely on a roll right now" said a Café Tacvbas pitcher. "I thought I made some good pitches against him, but he's a good hitter and hit 'em anyway."

When asked about his performance, Ortíz said, "I don't care if I go hitless as long as we get the win."
E. Ortíz walked in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, struck out in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.

This season Ortíz has hit 30 home runs and posted a .338 batting average.
