| Breaking News | | Tuesday, June 9th, 2009: Zapateros Kimura Lost for Year Doctors in León said Kazuki Kimura may not play anymore this year. The Zapateros reliever received back spasms during a game against the Hermosillo Sols and will be out for at least 2 weeks. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season.
Kimura's record up to now is 3-and-2 with 3 saves and a 3.88 ERA. He has given up 39 hits in 48.2 innings with 35 strikeouts. | | Sunday, June 7th, 2009: Martínez Belts Bunch of Base Hits It seemed that León center fielder Martín Martínez could do no wrong as the Zapateros kayoed the Café Tacvbas 10-1 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Naucalpan pitchers couldn't get him out as Martínez seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Zapateros were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Naucalpan fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant Martínez in the postgame press interview.
M. Martínez singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off C. Cisneros in the 9th.
This year Martínez is batting .282 with 66 hits, 9 home runs, 37 RBIs, 38 walks, .388 OBP and has scored 45 runs. | | Sunday, June 7th, 2009: Martínez Collects Cycle You might say Martín Martínez wore out his welcome with the Naucalpan Café Tacvbas. The center fielder gave them fits in today's 10-1 León victory by hitting for the cycle. "To hit for the cycle" is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball game. This occurs when a player hits a single, double, triple and homerun in the same game, getting every type of hit possible. Martínez ended the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, he said, "After the first three hits, I thought to myself, This could be the game I hit for the cycle. And I got lucky and did it."
M. Martínez singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off C. Cisneros in the 9th.
This season Martínez is swinging the bat at a .282 rate with 66 hits in 234 at-bats. To date he has hit 9 home runs, scored 45 runs and driven in 37. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 61-49, .555 PCT | | Position in Division | 6th, 12.0 GB | | Record at home | 28-27, .509 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-22, .600 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-6, .750 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 43-43, .500 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in February | 9-9, .500 PCT | | Record in March | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in April | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 4-5, .444 PCT |
