But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Miguel Aguilera showed how it's done as he went 5 for 5 against the San Luis Potosí Jardineros and helped the El Ray Vampiros beat them 5-4.
The manager for the Jardineros told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Aguilera keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
M. Aguilera doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Quezada in the 9th.
In 2009 Aguilera has produced 35 hits in 146 at-bats for a .240 average with 4 home runs and gotten on base at a .287 clip. | | Tuesday, May 12th, 2009: 5 Hits for Mariachis Durango Ciudad Acuña second baseman Alfonso Durango could do no wrong in today's 15-5 win over the Jardineros as he collected 5 hits.
"In every one of his at-bats things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Jardineros said to the press corps after the game.
Durango agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
A. Durango grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season Durango is batting at a .243 clip with 1 home run and 15 RBIs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 43-67, .391 PCT | | Position in Division | 8th, 16.0 GB | | Record at home | 18-37, .327 PCT | | Record on the road | 25-30, .455 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-4, .200 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-13, .435 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-18, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 34-49, .410 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in February | 6-12, .333 PCT | | Record in March | 7-22, .241 PCT | | Record in April | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in May | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in June | 7-2, .778 PCT |
