Azua's José Lópes put the wraps on a fine campaign today by winning the 2008 Liga Dominicana de Béisbol Invernal Outstanding Hitter Award.
He scorched the opposition with a .323 average, picking up 86 hits, 18 doubles, 1 triple, 24 home runs and 85 RBIs, while scoring 60 runs, in what many would say has been one of the better seasons of the veteran's career.

Keith Black of the Azua Zafiros Blanco became a fan favorite over the course of the 2008 campaign. The phenomenal rookie racked up a 1-0 record as he reeled in the Liga Dominicana de Béisbol Invernal Newcomer of the Year Award.
In 0 starts, he tallied 5.1 innings, 1 strikeout and an ERA of 1.69.
Black is 27 years old and appears to be the real deal. Bigger and better things could be in store for him in the coming years.

 | Sunday, February 1st, 2009: Azua-Baní Announce Swap
Azua and Baní have agreed in principle to a trade. The Zafiros Blanco will send 26-year old second baseman Carlos Rodríguez to the Depredadores del Peravia for 33-year old starting pitcher Roberto Ruíz, 24-year old right fielder José Flores and $571,200 in cash. The deal is expected to be finalized shortly and the clubs will be introducing their new players to the press when the paperwork is complete.
In his career Rodríguez is hitting .306 with a total of 23 home runs.
Ruíz has posted 13 victories and 7 defeats in his career with a 5.19 ERA. He also has fanned 150 batters in 157.2 innings and given up 172 hits.
