No single hit brought Francisco Suarze Player of the Week honors -- the Puerto Plata Playas Dorada right fielder corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said Suarze. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too agressively...swinging at a lot of bad pitches...that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. Suarze stroked 10 hits in 19 at-bats while cranking out 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
This year Suarze has hit 4 home runs and posted a .366 batting average.

 | Wednesday, December 10th, 2008: Ortíz Pitches Gem against Puerto Plata
Moca pitcher Pablo Ortíz put on a show today and walked away with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Puerto Plata Playas Dorada, throttling them on 1 hit. He just cruised through their lineup, fanning 9 and walking 0 in a strong outing.
"He was very efficient and he hit his spots," his manager said. "He stayed down in the zone and stayed away from the middle of the plate."
In 2008 Ortíz has a 7-1 record with a 2.69 ERA in 10 starts.

 | Saturday, December 6th, 2008: Starting Pitcher Ángel Centena Hurt
The Puerto Plata Playas Dorada were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Ángel Centena was likely to be out for 5 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Baní Depredadoras del Peravia. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a hyperextended elbow. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Puerto Plata manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Ángel is back in action."
In 9 starts this season Centena has chalked up a 4-3 record and a 4.70 ERA.
