Thursday, July 2nd, 2009: Hits Galore: Carter Drills 6 Hits
It was a great day at the plate for Roy Carter of the Mauna Loa Vulcans. He collected 6 hits in 6 tries, but his club still came up short in the win column. The Kailua Hanso racked up the victory, topping the Vulcans by the score of 17-1.

R. Carter singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off J. Alexander in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

In his season totals Carter has 1 home run and a .500 batting average.
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009: Howell Slams 5 Hits for Mauna Loa
Brad Howell was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Vulcans to a 17-1 victory over the Kailua Hanso.

After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.

In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Mauna Loa left fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."

Nobody was at home today as Howell finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.

B. Howell doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run double in the 7th.

This year Howell is hitting .301 with no home runs and 14 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .370 clip and scored 9 runs.
Monday, August 25th, 2008: Walker Fires Shutout in Hanso Victory
Martin Walker of the Kailua Hanso spun his magic on the Lana'i City Pineapples today. He blanked them 4-0 on 4 hits, registering 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.

"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Walker said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Kailua skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."

This season Walker has worked 71.2 innings with 24 strikeouts en route to a 3-4 record and a 2.39 ERA.
