| Breaking News | | Monday, June 29th, 2009: 5-5 Game for Castillo Marcos Castillo was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over Ballpark of Cave Springs, collecting 5 hits, but wasn't able to win the game. He got his 15 minutes of fame and the Wasilla Sledge Dogs got the 12-5 victory over the Fairbanks Grunts.
"Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off of it because we lost the game," he expounded to the press after the game.
After the first three hits, everybody's in the ballpark was drawn to him each time Castillo stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Fairbanks shortstop said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for high average is to relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't." That's exactly what he did today as Castillo finished the game with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
M. Castillo singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off A. Mejía in the 9th.
Thus far in 2009 Castillo is hitting .301 with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, 9 runs scored and has compiled a .348 OBP. | | Thursday, June 11th, 2009: Red-Hot Ruíz Cools off Taku It was not a good day at the plate for Winds hitters. Most of them came up empty against Miguel Ruíz of the Wasilla Sledge Dogs. He held them to 2 hits and blanked Taku 6-0. Ruíz also chalked up 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in the game at Oceans Ballpark.
| | Sunday, September 14th, 2008: Sledge Dogs Shut Out Capitals Arturo Morán was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Capitals. He shut them out 3-0 on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks.
The Wasilla manager said, "Arturo was very aggressive tonight. He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence."
The losing manager had praise, too. "He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well. Morán has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that offspeed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off."
Morán has a 7-6 season record so far. In 17 starts, he has fanned 56 batters in 119.1 innings with a 2.04 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record on the road | 9-6, .600 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-2, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 3-5, .375 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 4-4, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 10-7, .588 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in June | 13-9, .591 PCT | | Record in July | 1-2, .333 PCT |
