| Breaking News |  | Saturday, September 6th, 2008: Volcanoes Blanked by Abioye
Kezekia Abioye of the Waimalu Nene was lights out in a 5-hit whitewash of the Kilauea Volcanoes.
He told SION reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."
He registered 6 strikeouts and no walks in shutting out Kilauea 4-0.
In 2008 Abioye has compiled a 4-3 mark with a 4.57 ERA.

 | Monday, September 1st, 2008: Ávila - HL's Pitcher of the Month
August's standout hurler was José Ávila of Waimalu. He muzzled Hawaiian League hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award.
To win the honor Ávila compiled an impressive 5-1 mark and 2.54 ERA in 6 starts. The Nene star hurler also rung up 24 strikeouts in 46 innings.
This year Ávila has compiled a 5-2 record with a 3.06 ERA.

 | Saturday, August 30th, 2008: Cruz Tosses Shutout
Víctor Cruz of the Waimalu Nene shut out the Ewa Beach Imperialists 1-0, stopped them on 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Víctor stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."
In 2008, Cruz has a 5-3 mark in 12 starts with a 3.21 ERA. He has given up 68 hits in 70 innings, struck out 28 and issued 18 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .250 batting average against him.
