| Breaking News | | Monday, October 13th, 2008: Chávez Honored, 2008 HL Outstanding Hitter Award One of the Hawaiian League's most prestigious honors is the Outstanding Hitter Award. When all the votes were counted, the 2008 recipient was the talented third baseman of the Lana'i City Pineapples, Juan Chávez.
He starred this season with a .326 batting average, 97 hits, 7 home runs, 40 RBIs, .432 OBP and 44 runs scored.
For being named the HL's top hitter, Chávez will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend. | | Sunday, September 14th, 2008: Pineapples Spindola Sizzles with Cycle Lana'i City's Augusto Spindola accomplished what few others have been able to do -- he hit for the cycle.
In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle".
For the day he finished up 4-5 with 5 runs batted in and 2 runs scored and helped his Pineapples knock off the Kilauea Volcanoes 9-5 at Dole Park.
In the SION postgame press conference he said, "I didn't even know I had hit for the cycle until the reporters told me after the game."
A. Spindola hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off S. Estrada in the 4th, hit a three-run double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.
Spindola has a .264 average and a .324 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 52 hits, 6 home runs and driven in 40 runs. | | Monday, August 25th, 2008: Walker Fires Shutout in Hanso Victory Martin Walker of the Kailua Hanso spun his magic on the Lana'i City Pineapples today. He blanked them 4-0 on 4 hits, registering 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Walker said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Kailua skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."
This season Walker has worked 71.2 innings with 24 strikeouts en route to a 3-4 record and a 2.39 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 3.0 GB | | Record at home | 7-5, .583 PCT | | Record on the road | 7-6, .538 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 4-5, .444 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 5-1, .833 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 9-10, .474 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in June | 13-9, .591 PCT | | Record in July | 1-2, .333 PCT |
