Breaking News Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008: Nutmeggers-Hitmen Trade: Córdova for Montaño A trade between the Connecticut Nutmeggers and the New Jersey Hitmen was made official this morning. The Connecticut Nutmeggers have sent 27-year old center fielder Claudio Córdova to the New Jersey Hitmen in exchange for 21-year old minor league third baseman José Montaño. Córdova is hitting .284 in 2008 with 8 home runs, 53 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has 136 hits in 479 at-bats and played in 116 games. Monday, August 25th, 2008: Hot Hitter Wins IL Award This week Rubén Cruz, first baseman for the New Jersey Hitmen, hit everything in sight to win the Imperial League Player of the Week trophy. He rattled fences and pitchers as he banged out a .526 average and .600 on-base percentage. Cruz logged 10 hits in 19 at-bats, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs, 5 walks and scored 7 times. Cruz is presently hitting at a .301 pace with 18 home runs, 91 RBIs and has scored 76 times. Monday, July 28th, 2008: New Jersey Comes up Empty Against Workman Ronald Workman was sneaky fast, on the mark and hard to hit today. He blanked the New Jersey Hitmen 3-0 on 6 hits and had 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. "You know what he's going to throw. You know what to expect. And you still can't hit it," the New Jersey skipper told reporters after the shutout loss to the Arlington Bureaucrats.
