| Breaking News | | Sunday, October 5th, 2008: Bakersfield Third Baseman Will Miss 4 Weeks The Bakersfield Bears will lose the services of third baseman Bob Petersen after he sustained a hyperextended knee while making a defensive play in today's game against the Aurora Borealis. When asked about the injury, he took a philosophical approach. "Worse things can happen in life," Petersen said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 4 weeks.
So far this season Petersen is hitting .228 with 9 home runs. | | Tuesday, September 16th, 2008: Johnstone No-Hits Crystal Lake! "This is one of the best moments of my life," Ken Johnstone said.
"You never think that's going to happen -- a no-hitter."
He made those comments after he held the Sandgnats hitless in the Bakersfield 2-0 victory at Jonas Field.
"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," said the Crystal Lake manager, when asked about his epic performance. "Johnstone was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."
Johnstone was more humble about his historic feat and told SION reporters that he was "just happy to get the win for the club."
He faced only 30 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 3 and walked 3.
So far in 28 starts this season, Johnstone has recorded 13 wins and sustained 6 losses. He has pitched 168.1 innings, yielded 156 hits, fanned 94 and has a 3.42 ERA. | | Monday, September 1st, 2008: SL's #1 Batter Announced Pat Lilly of the Bakersfield Bears stood out at the plate during August.
